Free 2 Work

For Zach and I, a growing passion in our heart is 'freedom for all':
  • freedom from enslavement
  • freedom from oppression
  • freedom from sin
  • and freedom to live fully in Christ.
I'm not sure how this will manifest itself in our lives in the long run, but in the short run, we're looking for ways to help those specifically enslaved in sex trafficking and forced labor.

One organization I recently came across is Free2Work which is all about ending child and forced labor through raising consumer awareness of modern products. Here's an excerpt from their website to explain there cause a little bit better...
There is a story behind each barcode. Most products travel through various parts of the world and through many hands before they reach us. Free2Work provides consumers with information on how products relate to modern-day slavery. Through the site you can learn how your favorite brands are working to address forced and child labor. You can also access in-depth information about industry issues through our Industry pages and news feeds, and learn more about trafficking and supply chains through our blog posts.
I personally have never given a ton of thought to the source of what I buy. It matters though and you can make a difference one purchase at a time.

Free2Work's phone app allows you scan product barcodes directly or look up brands by category.
Each brand is given a score based on a variety of factors. This grading scale helps you know the truth of where what you buy is coming from and how it's helping or hurting those who are a part of the production process.
I highly encourage anyone out there who is concerned about this issue (which should be everyone :)) to download their free app and start avoiding brands with unjust labor practices and start supporting ones without. It's an easy, FREE way to start making a difference.

If you don't have an iphone or droid, you can reference their website for information on products.
